Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that can allow the body to access it's natural healing potential. It is administer by "laying on of hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
In order for the Reiki healing energies to have lasting results, one must accept responsibility for his or her healing and take an active part in it. The Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of the Reiki energy. It must also include an active commitment to improve oneself in order for it to be a complete system. The ideals are both guidelines for living a gracious life and virtues worthy of practice for their inherent value.
Usui Sensei, the Founder of Usui Reiki Ryoho, created Reiki Principles or so called five Precepts. Based on the phrase in the opening page of a book "Kenzen-no-genri" or "The Principles of Soundness" written by Dr Suzuki Bizan. The phrase title "A Path to Soundness" reads:
"Today only (Kyo dake wa)
Be not angry (ikarazu)
Be not fearful (osorezu)
With honesty (shojiki ni)
Perform diligently your duty (shokumu ni hagemi)
Be kind to others (hiztoni shinsetsu ni)"
